My complaint:
We (I and my partner) flew with Lufthansa from Istanbul to Rotterdam via Munich and in both the flights we were forced to stay hungry. We are vegetarians and I mentioned this specifically while booking our flights. That we are vegetarians was clear to them as we received the vegetarian food on our outward flights from Netherlands to Turkey. However, they forgot this during our return flights. We had to sit through the flight with only drinks while others were served hot chicken. When we asked the cabin crew, we were told that we should have specified that 24 hours prior to the flight during check-in. But since there is no option of selecting meal preference during check-in, how are we supposed to tell our meal preferences again to them? Also, people don’t turn from vegetarians to non-vegetarians in just one week so a meal preference selected while booking should also be valid for both outward and return journeys. In the end, we were very disappointed with Lufthansa’s attitude towards vegetarian and will try to avoid flying with them in the future. For an airline whose motto is ‘Nonstop you’ and which is trying to be green, this careless attitude towards environment friendly practice of vegetarianism doesn’t speak well of their sincerity in turning their words into actions.
Desired solution:
An apology and better attitude towards vegetarians in their flights. Ideally, each flight should have at least 3-4 extra vegetarian meal packets for these cases.
